The
Grand Imperium that has ruled the core of the
galaxy for thousands of years has been split asunder by civil war. Archduke
Ferdinand of Dabei, in an attempt to foster support for his cause in the sector,
has embarked upon a policy of economic aid to outlying subsectors. Rift
Subsector, your home region, has been earmarked for special attention.
Traditionally independent, it is the merchant families of the Rift subsector
who have, in times past, held the balance of power in this small group of
isolated star systems. Archduke Ferdinand has put aside a proportion of the
sector’s budget in order to found and support a Rift Subsector Merchant Guild –
an organisation of independent merchants who will oversee and encourage
interstellar trade within the subsector. Two months ago, you received your
invitation to attend the inaugural meeting of this august institution on
Ariane. The Archduke has now presented you and your fellows, with his official
charter. The Rift Subsector Merchants’ Guild has received its official blessing
… its future is in your hands!
